The Sion Lutheran Church is having a Holiday Bazaar Saturday, December 4th from 10 am to 2 pm.  The Church is located on the south side of Chatham on M-94.  They will offer crafts, a white elephant table, baked goods, cookies, bars, quick and yeast breads and candy.

Lunch will also be served.  On the menu are homemade soups, sloppy joes, hot dogs, beverages and a sampling of the baked goods for desert.  Featured will be the beautiful quilt shown in the picture.  The proceeds form the sale of the quilt and from the bazaar will go toward making quilts for people in third world countries.

The Ladies Guild of Sion Lutheran Church focus on making quilts for those in need.   The quilts are not only used for blankets, they are often used as partitions and walls in tents and buildings.  The ladies are always in need of sheets and blankets that can be used as backing for the quilts they lovingly make.  The quilts needed must be durable and constructed of large pieces of fabric. Any donations are greatly appreciated.

The ladies also put together different kits that accompany the quilts. Some of the kits that the ladies provide are layettes for babies, school kits, and health kits.  The layette kit consists of a receiving blanket, a shirt or onesie, a sleeper, 2 bars of soap, diapers and a wash cloth.  The school kits include a bag with handles, spiral bound notebook, construction paper, 6 #2 pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, scissors, and a box of crayons.  The health kit consists of a hand towel wrapped around a bar of soap, wash cloth, tooth brush, toothpaste, nail clippers, file and a comb.

Last October the Ladies Guild of Sion Lutheran Church sent out 260 quilts. The recipients are thankful to receive the kits and quilts.  Many of the items go to orphanages that have a great need.  The Ladies Guild of Sion Lutheran Church collects the items, assembles the kits, sew the quilts and then bring them to a designated drop off point.  From there the Lutheran World Relief organization (http://www.lwr.org/ ) distributes it around the globe to people in third world countries.

The proceeds from this beautiful quilt will go to make many quilts for people in need.
